Postgraduate study in podiatry

Podiatry at QMU sits within our Division of Dietetics, Nutrition, Biological Sciences, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Radiography (DNBSPPR), which has extensive knowledge and skills in allied health professional education as well as in public health, community and voluntary sectors.

Students studying Podiatry at QMU benefit from a supportive, practice-based approach to learning and access to excellent clinical and surgical facilities. These provide authentic learning experiences and opportunities to develop professional skills in modern healthcare environments.

We offer routes into the profession at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and ��˾��Ƶs gain hands-on clinical experience from their first year, working with NHS patients and developing the practical skills required for professional practice. Students benefit from a wide range of clinical placements throughout the Scottish NHS, helping to develop professional networks and enhance employability after graduation.

We also offer postgraduate opportunities for qualified podiatrists through our online MSc Advancing Practice in Podiatry and MSc Advancing Practice in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery courses.

MSc Advancing Practice in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery

This course is for podiatrists working in either the NHS or private practice who are looking to extend their scope of practice and develop a career as a podiatric surgeon or in extended scope roles in MSK/orthopaedics. As part of our Advancing Professional Practice Framework, this fully online pathway aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to develop advanced podiatric practice.

Students are at the core of our priorities and we aim to enrich the learning, teaching and the overall academic experience for them.
We appreciate that postgraduate ��˾��Ƶs come to us with a whole host of skills, experiences and knowledge that they have acquired from a previous undergraduate degree or work experience. We anticipate ��˾��Ƶs will draw on this to enhance both their own learning and that of fellow ��˾��Ƶs.
The ��˾��Ƶ is placed at the centre of the learning process and with guidance and the use of learning contracts is expected to take overall responsibility for their learning. These strategies will emphasise the development of critical, innovative and creative ways of thinking.
We attract ��˾��Ƶs from across the globe, which facilitates wide-ranging discussion of health-related issues.
Our courses are reviewed regularly and staff ensure that they take cognisance of developments in practice, and UK and wider healthcare policies to ensure that courses are fit for purpose.
All ��˾��Ƶs have the opportunity to undertake an independent piece of research, with staff supervision, as the culmination of their studies. Pre-registration ��˾��Ƶs typically select a practise-based study that often fits the research programme of a member of staff. Post-registration ��˾��Ƶs typically develop a study pertinent to their own clinical practice and work setting. A number of our ��˾��Ƶs have gone on to present their dissertation work at national and international conferences.
